If you own a Toshiba Satellite in the 'L' series, this VERY easy password reset tool may be invaluable to you and prevent having to send yor laptop back to the factory, servicing agent or whatever.

This is the kind of information that they don't give out.

Some of you may very well know the reset technique on some of the 'L' series Toshibas already, but for those of you banging your heads attempting to clear a known password or do not remeber your password, this is for you.

1. Turn the laptop upside down
2. Remove the Battery and Unplug it
3. Remove the memory cover shell (one small phillips screw)
4.Pull the arm pins on each side of the memory stick(s) 'outward' to pop-up the memory clips and remove them
5. On the one side, you will see 4 gold bars on the board.
6. Opposite of them, there will be a VERY small Gold color square on the board
7. Use a metal paperclip and stck it directly on top of the gold square for about 5-6 seconds.
8. Your done.. Enjoy without a BIOS Password unless you want to .
9. Plug the laptop in or on battery to start it up..
10. If you happen to get a hardware changed screen or the like, hit F1 to resume and you're all done.
11. Hit F2 on startup if you want to create a new password in the BIOS setup utility
12. My advice is to leave it be, but it's up to you. A windows password is more secure than people think. There is not much need for a bios password unless you REALLY don't trust someone.

Message me with your email address for the photo of EXACT location of the gold square on the board underneath the memory chipset.

NOTE: This small gold square of sorts, looks like it does nothing. It is maybe a centimeter or two square. Very small.. You will be thinking 'this isn't going to do anything, how could this do anything?' Truth is, I don't know how it works exactly.. But it resets the BIOS!!

I 'm not sure about this but ..'Use a metal paperclip and stck it directly on top of the gold square for about 5-6 seconds' would just be extending the gold square and may not have any effect. I have tried this technique on 'DEAD' laptops but I short the other end (just like jumpers on desktop mobos). But I would not recommend doing this on a working laptop though.
